It is now accepted that healthy cultures in healthcare organisations are crucial to ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care

Our one-day conference, Changing Cultures & Mindsets in Healthcare Delivery on Friday, 16th March, focused on understanding the challenges faced when embarking on changing the culture entrenched within healthcare services.

We were fortunate to have Chris Gibson MBE share his experience on how to make a difference through changing mindsets and how teamwork goes a long way. He is a very inspiring speaker and the audience found his presentation to be extremely enlightening and thought provoking.

Dr Akintunde Akinkunme, Medical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist at Baldock Manor Hospital, asked the question 'How do toxic institutions evolve?'. The discussion that ensued gave thought to how to change the culture within a healthcare service.

Dr Elena Arora, Principal Psychologist informed us about psychological defence mechanisms that we use against change. She explained that humans are creatures of habit. Since times immemorial, man has liked routine. Our internal predispositions (heredity and genetics) teach us to resist change mainly to ‘always feel in control’.

Informative presentations at Healing Journeys Conference

The event on Friday 6th October was well received with great speakers and an interesting range of topics from dementia; PICU; psychotherapy; the commissioning landscape, all the way to end of life care in psychiatry; advances in neuropsychiatry and even a philosophical discussion on the ethics of genetic and stem cell therapy for neurological conditions!

Thank you to all the speakers for making this an informative and engaging event.

We look forward to the next Nouvita conference in March 2018!
