Salary/Rate: £8.00 per hour
Work Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours) per week
Mon-Fri and alternate weekends

Location: Baldock Manor Hospital, Hertfordshire

The Domestic Cleaner reports to the Senior Administrator and is responsible to the Hospital Director. They are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the Hospital premises using standard methods, equipment and materials. They will also be involved in carrying out other general domestic duties under the direction of the Head of House keeping or other senior manager.

To promote the philosophy of the Company with dignity, independence and rights for all patients and encouraging participation in domestic tasks if wished with due consideration to managed risk taking – under the direction of the Hospital Manager.

  • To clean specific areas in line with Company policy and national cleaning standards
  • To provide a cleaning service in accordance with approved methods, standards and frequencies
  • To use cleaning equipment, machinery and cleaning materials as directed
  • To work in accordance with the day to day tasks and activities, as assigned
  • To assist in laundry tasks as directed by Head of Housekeeping
  • To be aware of physical surroundings and comply with health and safety guidelines and legislation
  • Ensure that any accidents at work, defects with machinery and building defects are reported to the Head of Housekeeping or the senior manager in a timely manner, and in accordance with Company policy
  • To treat patients and service users with dignity and respect
  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained, when coming into contact with patients and service users
  • Ensure that premises are locked and secured upon completion of duties, where appropriate
  • Participate in any auditing as directed by the Head of House keeping
  • Responsible for the security of any premises keys
  • To complete own work records accurately and submit them on time
  • To maintain a professional appearance at all times and wear appropriate footwear
  • To adopt a flexible approach when undertaking domestic duties
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory training and attend other relevant training courses, as directed
In addition to the above there are some general requirements that apply to all jobs in the Hospital:-

  2. Participation in training activities
  3. Participation in quality assurance systems
  4. All duties must be carried out to comply with :- Notification of accidents and incidents and other Health & safety requirements; Statutory legislation in particular COSHH and Hygiene regulations; Nationally and locally agreed Codes of Good Practice; Fire precautions; Equal opportunities
  5. Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 – the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions
  6. Compliance with the Company Policies and Procedures including the Code of Conduct
  7. Responsibility for all records (including patient health, financial, personal and administrative) that they gather or use as part of their work within the Trust.
