Are you looking to be at the centre of a dynamic therapy team, delivering an exceptional evidence-based rehabilitation programme? We’re looking for someone to support our Senior Occupational Therapist while taking on meaningful responsibilities of their own.

This is an exciting opportunity for a full-time (to include some weekend hours) Activities Coordinator to join an established, dynamic and effective Psychology & Therapies Team at Baldock Manor Hospital in Baldock, Hertfordshire. Baldock Manor Hospital offers a comprehensive and person-centred range of treatments within our Female PICU and Older Age acute wards for women and men with mental illness, personality disorders, and sometimes, complex physical health needs.

💼 Main objectives of the role

📋 Therapeutic Activities & Support

  • To support Senior Occupational Therapist and Psychology & Therapies team in delivering a programme of high standard and evidence based therapeutic interventions in group and individual formats.
  • To work on under the supervision of Senior Occupational Therapist
  • To work closely and co-operatively with all departments in ensuring effective service provision in a safe environment is maintained for all service users

🧾 Key Responsibilities

  • To deliver a range of group therapeutic activities with allocated patients in a variety of mediums and situations.
  • This may include working in the hospital or supporting service users to access the local community.
  • Therapeutic activities may include group work or one-to-one work.
  • Therapeutic activities may require being physically active, such as (but not limited to) facilitating walking groups.
  • To support Senior Occupational Therapist in planning, implementing and evaluating therapeutic programme ensuring that it considers the needs of the patient population and is person centred at the core.
  • To build one-to-one rapport with the patients to encourage participation in activities and empower recovery.
  • To work proactively under the supervision of Senior Occupational Therapist and as part of Psychology and Therapies team. To participate regularly in peer and individual supervision sessions. To demonstrate the ability to reflect on practice, to maintain own knowledge base and to identify own areas for development.
  • To maintain appropriate, accurate and up to date patient records in line with policies and standards of Baldock Manor Hospital and Nouvita in both written and electronic format
  • To understand unit and departmental administrative tasks to assist in the smooth running of psychology and therapy services.
  • To source and organise resources necessary to deliver therapeutic programme activities
  • To work closely with the nursing and support staff on the wards ensuring smooth and effective delivery of the therapeutic programme
  • To develop knowledge of local resources and services offered in the community, to assist in facilitating community integration.
  • To ensure Nouvita values are embraced and implemented in own clinical practice. To always treat patients with respect and dignity.
  • To ensure clear and concise communication with colleagues on all level, both in writing and in person. To always ensure effective and empathic communication with patients.
  • To promote therapeutic relationships that support our service user with purposeful activity whilst respecting the uniqueness of each service user, acting in a non-judgemental manner, promoting the rights of the individual at all times.
  • To give due regard to service users customs, values, culture, religious and spiritual beliefs, always acting in a facilitative manner that promotes patient dignity, independence and choice.
  • To report any maintenance, health & safety issues to a member of the management team.
  • To be aware of the financial constraints affecting the service and to assist with effective stock control, ordering the use of service resources.

📋Key Duties

  • Completing interest checklists with new patients on admission and uploading onto Nourish.
  • Facilitating ward- and community-based group activities (as appropriate to the current patient mix) encouraging engagement and monitoring interactions between patients.
  • Be enthusiastic and adaptable to cater for individual needs.
  • Completing one-to-one activity sessions promoting meaningful occupation and productive use of time.
  • Record keeping on Nourish and Microsoft Excel.
  • Reporting to OT or Head of Therapies with any concerns, issues or recommended changes.
