PAMMS rating: Excellent
Our service
We provide unparalleled care for those who specifically require treatment, support, and stability with their mental health as they begin their transition into a more independent environment. This could be into the community or a subsequent placement in longer-term supported accommodation.
Residents supported
The residents here are typically aged 40 or older (but placements are not limited to this age range) and require a longer-term or permanent placement where both their mental and physical health needs can be met. New admissions may not be incident-free at their current placement, present with challenging behaviour and low mood, and require close monitoring. Many residents need full support with their medication, personal care, and finances.
We can support individuals with complex mental health needs, including those who lack capacity and require legal frameworks such as DOLs, MOJ discharges, MAPPA, probation licenses, and Community Treatment Orders.
Residents at Howe Dell manor will need to have moderate to good mobility. There are three wheelchair-accessible ground-floor bedrooms and staff are trained to hoist. All other bedrooms are upstairs, and there is no lift due to the building being listed.
Exemplary care
The highest level of around-the-clock care is provided by a team of more than fifty staff across Howe Dell Manor and the neighbouring Coach House. The team includes RMN and RGN (mental health and general health) nurses, care home assistant practitioners (CHAPS), activity assistants, and support workers. We also have an in-house personal trainer as well as housekeepers and kitchen assistants.
We take a person-centred approach to support residents in developing confidence and independence and helping them integrate more within their local community. We support each resident in reaching their optimal level of independence through a range of meaningful daily activities, including assistance with medication and treatment, support with educational courses, and development of daily living skills.
Resident recovery pathway
Many of the residents at Howe Dell join us from in-patient services. Their length of stay varies depending on the individual and the level of treatment required; some residents are ready to move on quickly, others require more support and ongoing treatment, and Howe Dell Manor remains a longer-term placement.
Where appropriate, the recovery pathway can be continued in our Coach House, a separately registered home and smaller living space next door to Howe Dell Manor. Here, we provide care for ten individuals nearing the end of their rehabilitation.
Nutrition
Tasty meals are prepared with the input of a dietitian and the Howe Dell Manor residents. We cater to all dietary needs and preferences. While residents have a choice in meals, they are encouraged to eat healthily.
Activities programme
Our activities focus on recovery with the ultimate goal of helping residents to move back into the community.
We support our residents through group and individual activities to build their confidence to live more independently. This includes activities to improve health and fitness, such as exercise classes and weekly sessions with Nouvita’s personal trainer. Sessions in cooking and money management are run to develop independent living skills. We have table tennis and pool tables and organise regular social events such as garden parties and barbecues to promote social interaction.
We encourage participation in community-based activities such as cinema trips, bowling, shopping, and our popular fishing club during summer. We also help residents access local services such as hairdressers and social groups.
