The Ashdowne day centre is a safe, inclusive and fun space where experienced and long-standing staff provide a supportive experience daily, including a wide variety of day trips and activities. It’s more than just day care; it’s a place where they feel they belong, improve and progress.

Service users usually live at home with family and use this day service to provide support, respite and a positive experience. Ashdowne is ideal for people who prefer a quiet and calm environment in a smaller setting with smaller groups.

Our learning disability day service

The Ashdowne Learning Disability day centre is a place that your loved ones will enjoy, feel included and supported in a homely environment. Most current service users have been coming here for over a decade, with a stable and experienced team that have worked here for years.

A variety of daily activities is provided with a flexible schedule, keeping everyone engaged in a way that best suits them, from educational to creative, living and sensory, and with access in the community and a variety of day trips.

Service Users Supported

The Ashdowne team provide support to adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, and co-modalities during day time ‘school’ hours.

Most service users use our day service as an enjoyable and educational experience away from home in a familiar and social environment with trained professionals. It’s a place they will enjoy and benefit from, while providing respite for families and carers.

All our staff are highly experienced in looking after people with behaviours that challenge and complex needs.

Although some extreme behaviours may be unsuitable, the team will consider all cases and are always open to trialling bigger challenges. They pride themselves on accepting and improving the behaviours of many people over the years which other services have turned down or failed to manage.

Tester Days

Finding the right place is a three-way decision. We need to be happy with the person, ensuring we can support their needs safely. The person themselves needs to be happy coming to our day centre, and equally important is the family feeling happy that the centre is the best place for their loved one.

Our Tester Days are the best way to ensure everyone is happy, providing reassurance of the environment, culture, activities and support. Families stay with their loved one to see what they do and how a typical day is.

Whether you have local authority funding or are self-funding, if you are considering where is best for your loved one, get in touch and have a chat with our team about arranging a tester day.

Activities Programme and Days Out

Ashdowne service users have access to and will enjoy a variety of activities, with all requests considered and included where possible. We’re not known for saying no, but rather finding a creative way to fulfil needs and wants as best we can.

Creativity is a big part of daily activities, with a variety of arts and crafts, messy play and music playing a key part in most days. These activities are enjoyed by all, are super fun and put a smile on all faces.

Living skills, cookery and baking also feature regularly, with key and new skills learnt, achievements reached, and the smell of freshly baked foods filling the air (and stomachs!).

Our sensory room also gets plenty of use with all service users enjoying time with a range of colours, sounds and textures to stimulate and satisfy, while literacy and numeracy sessions support development and cognitive ability.

Access in the community and day trips also feature regularly, which can be as small as a visit to the local shops or park, to a trip to the zoo, the beach, theme park, a farm or a local town. All trips are carefully planned with family input.

At the day centre, service users enjoy our garden with large grass area, planters, planted borders and raised allotment beds.
