25 Hours per week (part time)
Windermere House is a residential home in Luton supporting men living with mental health needs. We're looking for a caring, resilient Support Worker to join our team on a part-time basis, helping the men we support to build independence, confidence and stability in their day-to-day lives.
You will work alongside a dedicated team to provide person centred support, encourage positive routines and help residents work towards their personal goals. Experience of supporting people with mental health needs would be a real advantage, but we also welcome applicants with the right values and a genuine interest in mental health.
What you will be doing:
As a Support Worker at Windermere House, you will provide person-centred support to the men living with us in line with their care and support plans, always promoting their independence, dignity and choice. Day to day, this means helping residents develop their living skills, such as cooking, budgeting, personal care, household tasks and managing appointments, and encouraging them to take part in meaningful activities, education, work and community life. You will also support residents with their medication in line with Nouvita's policies and training, and build positive, professional relationships with residents, their families and external professionals such as community mental health teams.
You'll be alert to any signs that a resident's mental health is deteriorating and report concerns promptly to senior staff. You will keep accurate, timely records, including daily notes, incident reports and risk assessments, and follow safeguarding, health and safety and infection control procedures at all times. You will also take part in handovers, team meetings, supervision and ongoing training.
Essential Experience:
• A caring, patient and non judgemental approach
• Good communication skills, with the ability to write clear, accurate records
• One years support experience preferably supporting individuals with mental health illnesses
• Able to work 12.5-hour shifts, including weekends and bank holidays
• Physically able to carry out the requirements of the role, including breakaway techniques and active support
• Willingness to complete all mandatory training, including breakaway training
• The right to work in the UK (we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role).
Desirable:
• Experience supporting people with mental health needs, in a residential, supported living, hospital or community setting
• Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or the Care Certificate
• A full UK driving licence
