If you have inpatient mental health experience in the last 5 years—either informally or having been detained—or have been the main carer for someone who has had an inpatient admission in the last 3 years, we would love to hear from you!
This is an excellent opportunity to draw on your own experiences to make a positive difference in the lives of people using mental health services. This critical role will enable you to support inclusion and co-production within the Hospital Service, as well as serve as a vital link between patients and the clinical and management teams.
You will lead our approach to sharing and valuing lived experience, and support our approach to carer and family involvement.
This is a new post—while it comes with clear parameters and expectations, there will be room to shape and develop the role and build strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners.

🎯 Key Responsibilities:
Working with the Senior Management Team (SMT) to achieve the following core objectives:
- Work with people from admission to discharge
- Help patients/carers understand the inpatient system and processes – provide clear, easy-to-understand information
- Empower patients to access info and take part in planning
- Have knowledge and networks of the local area to support people with information and signposting
- To be a point of liaison with the Unit on patient matters, specifically quality improvement initiatives to enable more robust and inclusive engagement.
- Help patients raise concerns and escalate when needed
🧾 Person Specification:
Ideally, you should be able to demonstrate:
- Strong communication skills – you’ll work closely with people in mental health crisis or recovery
- A good listener – able to hear others views and give them space to express themselves without judgement or opinion
- Comfortable using Word and email
- A respectful, dignity-led approach to working with others
- Ability to contribute to hospital policy reviews
